The First Annual Shelter Island (Mattituck) Spirit Ride is History. We had a small group for the first annual and enjoyed a spiritual and rewarding ride to Kath's gravesite. Kevin ran getting ready for The New York Marathon accompanied by his " honey" Jayne. We were met at the gravesite (Papa Joe is buried next to Kath) there by Grandma Flo Pufahl and Kath's brother John and his wife Cheryl. We shared a few hugs some tears and a lot of great memories. We left the cemetery after Kevin and Linds did a little frisbee demo for the assembled faithful. They actually made us believe they still have it. Probably the first cemetery Ultimate demo but then again keep in mind who was involved.

Edith and Kevin made the trip out from NY to join us on the ride.

Joe's daughter (yes she is pregnant) husband Don, along with Joe's wife Sandy went off the front as we traveled around Shelter Island. Joe, Edith, husband Kevin (who tried to tell us he always gets Edith to say yes), friends Paul and Connie Connor, and good friend Troy Gustavson followed up the rear until Paul flatted. We got him a ride back to the ferry. Kevin ran all over Shelter Island accompanied by Jayne who he loaded down with all kinds of weights in her back pack.

The day was overcast but really a great day to be biking. I actually stopped hammering and looked around.

We all met back at North Ferry and headed across to Greenport Market where Shelly Scoggin had prepared a feast of good food and with lots of sugary desserts. We in the end raised another $550 for the cause. Most importantly we got it off the ground and made the connections between us all a little deeper with commitments to take it forward, get more of the Ultimate Community involved and as Kevin said at the gravesite " Kath would be proud" and that is how it should be in the Spirit of the Game.

Again, from me our Spirit Ride Team and my family Thank you for involving us.
